MTV's The Dropout Chronicles
MTV's The Dropout Chronicles tells the story of three young people standing at a crossroads in their academic lives.
- Sean, 19, is weeks away from graduating from his large Miami public school when he learns his habit of cutting class is catching up with him and he won't be able to graduate with his peers. He has always found school to be boring and irrelevant. Many of his friends have already dropped out. Still, Sean would like to be the first male in his family to graduate from high school. Will he find a way to get his diploma or drop out and run the streets with his friends?
- Glendy, a 17-year-old from the Bronx, is a sophomore who was held back a year after hitting a rough patch in elementary school. Her parents want her to be the first in their family to graduate, but don't speak English and aren't able to help her with her schoolwork. Will the intervention of concerned teachers and the benefits of a small school be enough to help Glendy graduate and go to college?
- Maxine, 18, has three days left until graduation from her San Diego high school. If she passes her final exams she will graduate...or so she thinks. After passing her exams she discovers she is missing some of the credits she needs to graduate. If she goes to summer school, she can earn her degree, but she still won't be college ready or prepared for meaningful work. What's in store for Maxine's future?
Sean, Glendy and Maxine want to graduate but have obstacles in their paths that will challenge them in different ways. What will be the factors that motivate one to make it while another fails? Who will tough it out and who will drop out?
